Firstly, if you’re thinking about joining a group e-mountain bike tour you need to be aware that most airlines don’t allow you to travel with the battery, so traveling with your own bike may not be an option.
That’s why we have a fleet of great E-MTBs to rent in every destination where we offer E-MTB tours. For example, in the Highlands of Scotland we have Yeti e-mountain bikes, in Tuscany Santa Cruz E-MTBs, and in Slovenia we have Pivot Shuttle E-MTBs to rent. Each an amazing e-mountain bike and each perfectly suited to the trails and terrain in that destination.
If you choose one of our e-mountain bike-specific tours you’ll be coming on an adventure that has been designed entirely with E-MTBs in mind. This means that the itinerary is made up of trails that are most suited to e-mountain bikes, ensuring that your E-MTB tour experience is the best it can be.
We also understand the subtle differences between e-mountain bikers and regular mountain riders, and have created E-MTB tours that suit all levels of e-mountain bike riders. As such, our itineraries are not only packed with great climbs and superb descents on varied, picturesque trails, they’re also full of amazing cultural and foodie experiences unique to each destination, whether that’s our unique E-MTB safari in Namibia, our high Alpine adventure in Switzerland, or the coastal and island trails of Croatia.
On the other side of the coin, we have regular MTB tours on traditional mountain bikes. Analogue mountain bikes are very much alive and kicking and, consequently, so is the popularity of traditional mountain bike tours around the world.
There are still advantages of choosing a regular MTB tour over an E-MTB tour, for example, the lack of battery means that there are no flight restrictions and you can therefore travel with your own bike.
You also don’t need to worry about managing battery life on the trails each day, or charging batteries in the evenings. As such, you can reach more remote locations without having to worry about running out of battery. And if you have to hike your bike to a sublime descent – like in Bhutan, the Pyrenees or Scottish Highlands – a normal mountain bike is much lighter than an e-bike!
Generally speaking, there is a wider range of destinations and trails for traditional MTB tours. The infrastructure required for charging multiple e-bike batteries isn’t always available in every destination, and there can be restrictions on which trails allow e-mountain bikes in some countries.
We also have a selection of tours in which we mix regular mountain bikes and e-mountain bikes so that you can choose to ride whichever model works best for you.
For the reasons mentioned above, this isn’t an option for every tour or destination, but in some cases everything falls into place to allow E-MTB riders and MTB riders to come together and enjoy the same experience.
We have combined MTB and E-MTB tours in Scotland, the Yukon in Canada, and in Namibia – each one unique and ideal for riders to enjoy a shared experience on different bikes.
