You’re a regular e-mountain biker, riding once a week through the season and comfortable on: long double track climbs; singletrack descents with some tight corners; lots of loose, rocky singletrack descents; rooty forest trails. Read more on our intermediate skill level.

On our E-MTB tours the e-bike is not a skill or fitness compensator. It is an aid to exploring the world, riding further, or giving you that one final run down a trail that we might otherwise have missed.

During our e-mountain bike tour in Tuscany you will deliver around 75% of the effort required on an average day and your E-MTB will help you with the other 25%. You will occasionally encounter terrain or a situation where you will need to run the bike in Boost mode for short periods. Most of your ride will be spent between Eco and Trail modes, sitting in Eco mode on most climbs to manage your battery life through the day.

Please note: The skill level required reflects an overall rating for the trails on the trip but you should expect to find sections and obstacles that push your ability levels.

You have been e-mountain biking regularly for at least two years
You can brake, use gears and corner with confidence
You have good e-bike handling skills, and are confident riding rough double track and non-technical singletrack
You are competent at riding undulating trails with moderate climbs and descents on both double and singletrack, but tend to get off and walk technical singletrack sections
You e-mountain bike approximately twice per month throughout your biking season

Fitness level: 5/7

You have a good level of bike fitness, exercising at least three times every week throughout the year, for an hour at a time
You can ride an e-mountain bike for up to six hours a day at a moderate pace, with snack and photo stops, for three or more consecutive days
You can tackle two or three fairly significant climbs a day, up to 600 metres each

Typical trails you’ll be riding

The trails on our E-MTB tour Tuscany are a mixture of man-made singletrack trails through forests and along the coastline, and natural ‘rustic’ ancient walking paths
Double track: undulating and sometimes steep forest tracks, made up of a mixture of hard-packed and loose surfaces, and quiet country roads
Singletrack: you will encounter roots, fixed and loose rocks (lots of!), flowing ‘canyon’ style trails, and loose, sandy singletrack
The surface will most likely be very dry and loose
Trails in the forest will have roots crossing them and may be narrow through the trees

The ideal bike for your E-MTB tour in Tuscany is a good quality full-suspension e-mountain bike with around 140mm of travel. Enduro style tyres that have robust puncture protection, such as the Maxxis Minion with EXO+ sidewalls are ideal for this adventure.

Please remember that it is not possible to fly on any airline with an eBike. If you are coming from oversees, we have a selection of high quality electric mountain bikes available for you to add onto your booking and rent for the duration of the tour.

We can arrange rental of a Santa Cruz full suspension e-mountain bike for the duration of your E-MTB tour in Tuscany. The rental agreement will be with our partners in Tuscany.

We only run small group e-mountain bike tours to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible, and we can take a maximum of eight riders in each group. The minimum number of people we require to run this E-MTB tour of Tuscany is six.

Our e-mountain bike tour in Tuscany caters for a wide age range; typically between 30- and 65-years-old. Regardless of age, you must have the appropriate level of physical fitness and mountain biking skills [link to skills section] to participate in this adventure. Please refer to clause 14 of our terms and conditions of booking  to find more information on rider age.

This E-MTB tour in Tuscany is a guided e-mountain bike vacation, ideal for intermediate e-mountain bikers. Riding here, in coastal Tuscany you’ll ride for around 4-5 hours per day. The trails are generally very dry, loose, and rocky with most climbing done on double track and descents on varied singletrack.

The distances we cover each day range from 20km to 45km, in accordance with the difficulty of the terrain. Each evening your guides will chat with you about the following day’s e-mountain biking and give you an idea of the sorts of trails you can look forward to. If there’s anything you feel anxious about, your guides will be happy to discuss it with you.

No, you only need to carry a 16 litre day pack with you whilst riding. On your mini-adventure to Elba island you will be able to have an overnight bag with you in the van.

Your guide will be very happy to give you some e-bike skills help during your trip to help improve your confidence and your enjoyment of your E-MTB tour Tuscany. If there is a section that you would prefer not to ride, then you can simply hop off your bike and walk. You won’t be the only one to walk certain sections and it’s not a competition in biking ability; it’s an e-mountain bike holiday!

Your e-mountain bike guides are local to this part of Italy and experienced professionals who have a real passion for e-mountain biking and for the culture and landscape of Tuscany. Your safety is their number one priority, closely followed by your enjoyment of the tour. They will always be on-hand to answer any questions or requests you may have throughout your trip. On this e-mountain bike tour in Italy you will be able to make yourself comfortable in a traditional Tuscan agriturismo, surrounded by olive groves and with its own private pool. This will become your home-from-home in Tuscany. You will also stay in a small agriturismo on the island of Elba for one night.

All breakfasts, two lunches and one dinner are included in the tour price.
Whilst lunches and dinners are not included in the tour price, so that you can choose what you wish from the dinner menu, we will eat together as a group each mealtime.

You should budget around 40€ per day for meals.

A good quality full suspension e-mountain bike with 140mm travel will be ideal for this E-MTB tour. The terrain you will be riding is rough in places and you will feel more comfortable on a full suspension bike for the duration of the trip.

Your E-MTB tour Tuscany starts and ends in Rome, at Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport
The airport is well-served by international airlines, including: British Airways, American Airlines, Delta, United Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines, Qantas, EasyJet and Ryanair.

You should check the relevant government website to satisfy yourself of the requirements for travelling in and out of Italy from your country.

Arrival and departure details

Your E-MTB tour in Tuscany will start and end in Rome, Italy. You should arrive at least one day prior to your tour start date and spend a night at the Hilton Garden Inn or Domus Porto di Traiano hotel, which both offer a shuttle service from the airport.

Your guide will meet you at the Hilton Garden Inn on the first morning of your adventure, and you’ll transfer around 2.5 hours to Tuscany.

On the final day we will transfer you back to Rome Fiumicino airport, which is a 2.5 hour drive, so you should book your return flight departing no earlier than 2pm that day.

Our e-mountain bike guides in Tuscany are of the highest level. They are qualified in first-aid and they have the knowledge and experience to lead a group safely in these wild and beautiful parts of Italy.

Our guides have years of experience in the saddle on the trails around Tuscany and will be able to enhance your holiday with facts and fables on local history, flora and fauna. They’re also the team that builds and maintains the trails around this part of Tuscany and an integral part of the whole mountain bike community here.

The accommodation we use on our E-MTB tour in Tuscany is family-owned and operated. We’ve spent time researching these areas extensively to select the most comfortable and authentic accommodation in the region, and we have carefully planned the itinerary around these.

You will spend six nights in a beautiful Tuscan ‘agriturismo’, surrounded by olive groves and complete with its own private pool. There is also a wellness centre, indoor swimming pool, and two restaurants on the estate.

The style of our Italian home-from-home means that there is one bathroom between two rooms, so you will be sharing a bathroom with another rider(s).

You’ll also spend one night in a small agriturismo on the Island of Elba.

Another highlight of our Italian adventure is the abundance of fresh local food and drink you’ll enjoy in every town and village along the way. Tuscany is famous for its exceptional local food and wine, and you will be spoiled by an abundance of delicious home-cooked dishes, in a variety of different restaurants and ‘osterie’.

Whilst most lunches and dinners are not included in the tour price, so that you can choose what you wish from the menu, we will eat together as a group each mealtime.

There are no specific vaccinations or anti-viral medication required for travelling to Italy.

It is wise to carry basic medicines such as paracetamol or aspirin for fever and pain and Pepto-Bismol for stomach upset, and insect repellent.

Also, please let us know if you have any special food requirements, allergies or pre-existing conditions your guides should know about.

You should always consult your own doctor or physician before travelling to new countries to seek their advice on matters concerning your health abroad.

Your health and safety on tour is our top priority and when you travel with us you will be covered by Global Rescue emergency medical and evacuation services.

The official currency of Italy is the Euro EUR and is the only currency that will be accepted. ATM machines are available in most towns.

Tipping

It is not compulsory to tip your guides or drivers in Italy, but if you feel that you have had a tremendous experience on your E-MTB tour of Tuscany, you can tip at your discretion; as a rough guide, around 5% of your tour price for your guiding team.

It is not compulsory to tip in restaurants, however should you wish to tip your servers, 10% of your meal cost would be acceptable.

You are required as a condition of booking to be insured against medical and personal accident risks. In this policy you must include cover for mountain biking and we recommend that you take out a policy which covers cancellation and baggage, including your bike.

We work with Global Rescue whose policies are specially designed for adventure travel and you can arrange your insurance cover directly with them.
