GRADUATE SOFTWARE ENGINEER

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?

We’re looking for a Graduate Software Engineer to join our small development team in Bunchrew, just outside Inverness. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers to help shape our new mountain bike app and software platform in its early stages. You’ll also contribute to the continued development of our booking and CRM system on which our tour business runs.

You’ll have some knowledge and hands-on experience of modern software engineering, particularly database, web and mobile app development. You’ll also have a broad understanding of the tools that support it, such as UI design, version control and software testing.

You enjoy working out why something doesn’t work, you’re happy to ask questions, and you want to see your work in the hands of real users. In a team our size, your ideas will be heard and your work will make a visible difference within your first few months.

H+I Adventures office

ABOUT US

For 20 years, H+I Adventures has crafted and delivered life-affirming guided MTB and E-MTB adventures all over the world from our base in the Scottish Highlands.

We recently bought a mobile app, built in Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android, along with the software platform behind it. Our ambition is to grow it into one integrated operating system that will run mountain bike businesses all over the world.

You’ll join a close-knit team of two senior and two mid-level software engineers, managed by the company directors.

THE ROLE

You’ll work across our whole digital ecosystem, getting to know the platforms and languages we use, including WordPress, Laravel, Angular, Vue and Firebase Cloud Functions.

Working with senior colleagues, you’ll help develop our booking and CRM system so it’s more efficient for staff and better for customers, including scoping and building its integration with the mobile app. You’ll also lead the redesign of the user interface for our business platform, with support from the wider team, and look after our websites, webshop and domains.

WHERE YOU’LL WORK

Our office is in Bunchrew, three miles outside Inverness and on a bus route. For your first six months you’ll be based in the office, with an induction programme to help you settle in and the whole team on hand. After your probationary period, you can work from home up to two days a week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role will involve a variety of tasks in the digital domain, including but not limited to:

  • Building a detailed understanding of our digital landscape, so you can offer technical support across it
  • Getting to know our booking and CRM system inside out and helping to develop it further
  • Helping to scope the technical specification for integrating the CRM system with the mobile app
  • Working with the team to build that integration and create a seamless experience for our customers
  • Leading the redesign of our business platform’s user interface, with support from senior engineers
  • Developing and maintaining the website and webshop for our app and software platform
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and security tasks across all company websites
  • Handling technical support requests from app users

Day to day, you’ll use the Atlassian suite to collaborate with colleagues, manage your workflow and keep documentation up to date.
