You should arrive in Ljubljana the day before your tour start date, to allow for any travel delays, and to give yourself time to relax before your adventure begins.
We recommend staying at B&B Slamič, since this is where your guides will meet you tomorrow morning.
Your local guide will meet you at B&B Slamič in Ljubljana at 10am, where you’ll have a coffee and s/he’ll run through the all-important pre-trip briefing.
Your guides will then help you build your e-mountain bikes and set up rental E-MTBs, ready for your first warm-up ride in Slovenia. Ljubljana is surrounded by a huge network of fabulous local trails, and you’ll only have to pedal for 15 minutes from the city centre to reach the start of your ride.
We’ll break you into your trip gently with some lovely wooded double track and singletrack, with a few rooty sections to wake you up after your travels!
After a couple of hours of really enjoyable trails, we’ll drop back into Ljubljana and have a cold beer, before making the hour-long drive to our hotel in Triglav National Park. We’ll spend the next two nights near the shores of Lake Bohinj.
We’ll enjoy dinner in a local restaurant which specialises in traditional Slovenian dishes made from seasonal, organic produce including: venison, asparagus, trout, porcini mushrooms, wild berries and buckwheat dumplings.
On your first full day on your e-mountain bike tour Slovenia we’ll embark on a truly breathtaking mountain bike ride on Vrh Bace mountain. You will start the day directly from your hotel, with a 700m warm up ascent! But with the help of our e-bikes of course.
This trail consists of World War I mule tracks that have a fantastic gradient for mountain biking, with a relatively easy ascent (for the Alps!).
After taking in the view and having a power snack you will descend on a mixture of mule and gravel tracks, and pristine Slovenian singletrack to the opposite side of Vrh Bace.
After a refreshing drink at a local cafe, we’ll load our bikes onto the train to travel back through the mountain we’ve just ridden over to our little village, where we’ll saddle up again to ride back to our accommodation.
Dinner this evening will be in a fantastic typical mountain village restaurant, where we’ll enjoy delicious local meats from the grill, accompanied by vegetables and some of the local schnapps (which is something of an acquired taste!).
Today we drive towards the western edge of Slovenia. Picturesque Lake Bled is one of the must-see sights of Slovenia, and we’ll stop to take pictures of the lake, tiny island and clifftop castle before continuing deeper towards the alpine village of Kranjska Gora and the Vršič Pass.
The road to the Vršič Pass is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountain roads in the whole of Europe. You will be surrounded by Dolomite-style peaks reaching high above you to a height of around 2,500m, and we’ll be watched over by the rock face of a Pagan lady that is emblazoned on the sheer rock of Prisank mountain.
You will saddle up and start your ride that will take you past Jasna lake, continuing through Krnica valley first on a gravel road, then on the cobble stone road built during WWI and all the way to the top of Vršič pass on an old mule track path. When we crest the highest point your camera will be going into overload, trying to capture the impressive mountain ridges surrounding you.
Slowly, with lots of photo stops, we climb to the pass at 1,611m which rewards us with some of the best mountain views on the trip. You will have lunch on the pass in a typical alpine mountain hut, before three incredible descents back down the valley to Kranjska Gora.
Optional: After we check in to our boutique hotel we will recharge our e-bikes, and those that feel like riding a bit more can join our guide on a ride up to Tromeja, the trig point between Slovenia, Austria and Italy, just before dinner.
Today will start with a true alpine breakfast deep in the heart of the Julian Alps, gazing out of the window at the jagged peaks that surround us.
We drive for about an hour, crossing the border with Italy before we are again back in Slovenia. Our E-MTB ride up to Kobariski Stol is a two hour climb that will finish above the tree line on the lush green pastures where the cows graze during the summer months. We’ll have a rest here and eat with the farmer and taste some of his homemade cheeses.
As we say our goodbyes to the farmer, we start our descent that is made up of a century old zig-zag mule track with close to 1,200 vertical metres of downhill, that will likely have paragliders flying over head as we descend!
When we reach the River Nadiza, claimed to be the warmest river in Slovenia, we can dive in for a swim to wash off some of the dust and sweat from the day’s ride.
Our final leg to the hotel is on easy rolling trails with stunning mountains surrounding the river, a perfect end to a big day!
We are spending two nights in Kobarid, which has become world famous for its local gastronomy and high end-cuisine.
We’re dedicating the whole day today to the emerald beauty of Slovenia, the Soča River and its surroundings. In the morning we will climb up to picturesque Drežnica village, from where we descend on a section which is a combination of singletrack and fire roads.
We continue our exploration riding single trail along the river and visit the hidden Kozjak Waterfall along the way. We’ll stop for lunch in a locals’ favourite campsite for a typical meal of trout on the grill, or ‘under the bell’ veggies and meat. The crêpes filled with different sweet and savoury ingredients are to die for.
This afternoon you’re free to spend as you wish.
If you are in need of more of an adrenaline rush you can choose a 2-hour rafting trip (level 3-4) on the rapids of the Soča River, or paraglide high above Soča valley.
Or for something more cultural you can learn more about WWI history at Kobarid museum.
Once in Kobarid, you can stop at Hiša Franko for their 11-course gourmet meal – a must for all devoted foodies. Hiša Franko received its third Michelin star in 2023 and chef Ana Ros was just named No 18 among 100 World’s best chefs.
Today we embark on a journey through endless vineyards and spectacular landscapes. E-mountain biking is a great way to experience the hilly Brda wine region, allowing time to sample the produce.
You will get to see the change between the rough Alpine environment and the lush green hills of the south and wine growing region. Goriska Brda, Collio in Italian, is located just on the border with Italy and is also known as the Slovenian Tuscany.
We bike between the vineyards and under a canopy of cherry and apricot trees, sample world-class Slovenian wines and extra virgin olive oils and spoil our taste buds with excellent local gastronomy.
We first climb up to Gonjace viewing tower where we will learn more about its history and geography. We then continue with a ride through the charming medieval town of Smartno where we visit a local olive oil producer.
Our E-MTB ride will take us on a quiet gravel road, passing old settlements and hilltop villages. For a short while we ride into Italy and end our ride in a family run boutique hotel that sits high above the vineyards. You’ll even get to soak your muscles in the stunning infinity pool with views across the valley.
You’ll have dinner in the village tonight, in a restaurant that makes its own organic wine from local grapes to accompany the delicious menu of meat, cheeses, vegetables and scrumptious desserts.
Today we’ll start with a short transfer to the foot of the coastal mountain of Slavnik.
We’ll climb to the summit hut at 1,028m, where you can catch the first glimpses of the sea and look back over the wine growing region and on to the mountains where you have been riding all week. After lunch at the summit, you will embark on the final descent of the week.
This descent starts as a flow-trail feast, then the trail turns away from the ridge onto the coastal facing slope and becomes a little more rocky, but still has great flow. At the foot of the mountain we’ll weave through the village and stop for lunch before our final ride to Piran and the completion of your week’s e-mountain biking adventure.
We’ll check into a gorgeous hotel with views over the coast and walk the Venetial old town, main square and harbour, where you will have dinner watching the sun setting over the Adriatic sea. Life is good!
Sadly this is the end of our e-mountain biking adventure in Slovenia. We will return you to Ljubljana airport by 12 noon and say our fond farewells before you catch your flights home.
