To help you make the most of your extra time in Norway, we’ve pooled our collective local knowledge to create this handy city guide for how best to spend 24 hours in Molde before you set off on your intrepid fjord exploration in our mountain bike tour in Norway.

Morning

If travelling has left you feeling a little tired you should take a stroll from your accommodation through the many rose gardens Molde is famed for, before sniffing out the tasty treats and top drawer coffee on offer in the quirky Fole Godt AS cafe and bakery.

For those feeling adventurous and energetic a hike to the Varden viewpoint some 400m above town is well worth doing for the vista over the fjords and hundreds of peaks on the horizon.

Afternoon

The Romsdal Museum should definitely be on your Molde hit list. A 10-minute walk from town will have you stepping back in time with streets of old wooden houses and buildings.

You can stroll through the quaint surroundings, find yourself a bench by the pond or flower beds, or delve further into the history in the new “Krona” exhibition centre.

Evening

The summer daylight hours are stretched this far north meaning you won’t be scrabbling to squeeze in your to do list. We’d recommend heading down to Glass restaurant on the waterfront with a stylish interior, friendly hosts, and a great mix of quality food and wine.

Before heading to bed, a walk along the waterfront in the late evening twilight will have you chomping at the bit to get aboard the Gåssten to set sail into the labyrinth of fjords.
