E-MTB Tour Montenegro Itinerary

+Day 0 - Arrival in Kotor

We recommend arriving in Kotor the day before the tour start date to ensure that you’re ready to get going on day 1 and make the most of your ‘Espresso Adventure’ in Montenegro.

Kotor is one of the 10 most beautiful bays in the world, so it is worth taking the time to spend a wonderful day here.

+Day 1 - Transfer to Durmitor National Park + Welcome ride

Your guide will meet you at 9:30am at your H+I recommended hotel in Kotor. From here we will transfer to Šavnik, a small town located at the confluence of three rivers, where we will have a refreshment and set up our e-mountain bikes, ready for our first ride.

Šavnik is the lowest-lying town in this municipality, which means that whichever way you turn you are surrounded by the lush, green hills of Durmitor National Park.

We will start our first E-MTB ride in Montenegro by cruising up a beautiful road to the top of a mountain pass, taking in the spectacular views as we go. We’ll have a break amongst tiny glacial lakes, surrounded by medieval tombstones called ‘Stecci’, then finish our ride in Žabljak, the outdoor capital of Montenegro, in the heart of Durmitor National Park.

We’ll check-in to our cosy hotel which will be our home for the next two nights, and get freshened up ready for a delicious welcome dinner.

Distance cycled: 15km (app. 3 hours)
Accommodation: Small hotel Žabljak

+Day 2 - Lush forests + turquoise lakes of Durmitor National Park

Today we will ride straight from our hotel and head higher and deeper into Durmitor National Park. We pedal up to Jablan lake and descend towards Barno and Black lakes. You will begin to appreciate the geological formation of this park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980, formed by glaciers and rivers over millions of years.

This fascinating geological heritage has led to the whole area being covered by a network of singletracks and fire roads perfect for e-mountain biking.

Along the way we will meet local shepherds and organic farmers. They live hand-in-hand with nature and, as a result, ‘from-farm-to-table’ is not just a marketing term here, it is a way of life and how locals have lived for generations. Their home-made pita, cheeses and stews are heavenly and just perfect after a good day of e-mountain biking in Montenegro.

We’ll relax and watch the sun set over this wild landscape, one of the very few unspoiled corners of Europe.

Distance cycled: 20km (app. 5 hours)
Accommodation: Small hotel Žabljak
Meals included: Breakfast

+Day 3 - Biogradska Gora National Park + Kolasin

We leave Durmitor behind today and drive about 90 minutes, via Durdevica Tara and Tara Kanjon, to Kolasin.

Kolasin is popular ski resort in the winter and offers endless cycling trails the rest of the year. We´ll explore the rugged environment of the Bjelascica mountains in Biogradska gora National Park. The entire high-mountain massif is of volcanic origins, with smooth round shapes and softly rolling landscapes. This is a contrast to most of Montenegro’s mountains, and makes for an ideal playground for e-mountain biking.

High above Kolasin town time has stopped in “katun”, small mountain villages scattered with wooden huts and inhabited by shepherds in the summer. We’ll stop for lunch with shepherds, and perhaps purchase some old-fashioned woollen socks as souvenirs.

We descend back to the valley for a refreshing swim in Biogradsko lake, or we can indulge in the superb spa at our hotel just before dinner.

Distance cycled: 40km (app. 8 hours)
Accommodation: Small hotel, Kolasin
Meals included: Breakfast

+Day 4 - Departure

Sadly, it is time to say farewell, and we will transfer you back to Kotor in time for your onward travels. It’s been a short, but very sweet adventure, in this lesser-known, but spectacularly beautiful corner of Europe.

Until next time!

Meals included: Breakfast
